The Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed July 24 to rule on an application by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seeking permission to destroy a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory uncovered in a remote forest in Ogun State.
Justice Musa Kakaki adjourned the matter after conducting a special court sitting at the laboratory site in Mowe village, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, where the facility was inspected.
The NDLEA had on July 10 arraigned three Mexican nationals and seven Nigerians on an 11-count charge bordering on the alleged establishment and operation of the clandestine laboratory. All 10 defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence through its first witness, who testified on the chemicals and equipment recovered from the facility, while defence counsel raised objections to some of the exhibits tendered before the court.
The NDLEA said the laboratory allegedly contained equipment and chemicals used to produce more than 2,400 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value exceeding ₦480 billion, and urged the court to grant permission for the facility to be destroyed.
