Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned what he described as attempts to frustrate the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that the move reflects President Bola Tinubu’s determination to turn Nigeria into a de facto one-party state.
Atiku’s reaction followed a ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which set aside its December 10, 2025 judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
In a statement, the former vice president described the court decision as a setback to Nigeria’s democratic process, insisting that political pluralism must be protected.
He accused the Tinubu administration of undermining opposition parties through actions aimed at limiting political competition, warning that such developments could threaten the country’s democratic system.
Atiku called on democratic institutions and Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend the nation’s multi-party democracy.
