Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commissioned the reconstructed 19.79-kilometre Buguma-Degema-Abonnema Road, restoring a major transport link connecting Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas.
The project, executed by Julius Berger, is aimed at addressing years of deterioration that had caused prolonged travel delays, economic losses and security challenges for commuters. Governor Fubara said the completion fulfils his commitment to transforming the riverine corridor and improving security for residents.
Commissioner for Works, Professor Temple Nwofor, said the road features dual 50-millimetre asphaltic binder and wearing courses built to required standards. He added that the project included rehabilitation of seven bridges across Ido and Abalama, as well as new streetlights, walkways and expanded concrete drainage systems.
