The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has placed Rivers, Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, Kano and several other states on high Ebola preparedness alert following renewed outbreaks in parts of Africa.
In a statement, the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, said Nigeria had not recorded any confirmed Ebola Virus Disease case linked to the outbreak.
He explained that the World Health Organization’s declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, alongside increasing Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, required intensified surveillance and preparedness activities across Nigeria.
The agency directed all states and the Federal Capital Territory to immediately activate full preparedness systems to ensure early detection, rapid containment and protection of healthcare workers.
