Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his final appearance in the tournament.
The 40-year-old, who has scored 953 goals for club and country, also revealed that he plans to retire from football in “one or two years.” Next year’s World Cup, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will mark Ronaldo’s sixth appearance in the global tournament.
Speaking at the Tourism Summit in Riyadh, Ronaldo said, “Definitely, yes. I will be 41 years old and I think [this] will be the moment in the big competition.”
Currently playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, Ronaldo is the all-time leading men’s international goalscorer with 143 goals and continues to pursue the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
