Police in South Africa have been battling to violence in townships near the capital, Pretoria.

Trouble started in Tshwane over the choice of a candidate of the governing African National Congress to run for the position of Mayor.

Some ANC members in the city are angry that the party pushed aside the current mayor KGOSIENTSHO RAMOKGOPA.

Reports say the protests later spread to Atteridgeville, Ga-Rankuwa and Hammanskraal, where angry residents blocked roads and hauled stones at police vehicles.
