The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice IYAYI LAMINKARA for appointment as substantive Chief Judge of the state.
The Speaker of the Assembly, DOBOTORUDIMA ADAMS presided over a session with nine members to consider a letter from Governor NYESOM WIKE on the request for the confirmation of Justice LAMINKARA.However; the number of lawmakers present was far less the actual membership size of the State House of Assembly, which stands at thirty-two; as twenty-two other had their elections nullified by the court of appeal.Meanwhile; if the action of the nine-member House of Assembly goes unchallenged, Justice LAMINKARA will become the second female Chief Judge of Rivers State, after Justice DAISY OKOCHA who held the position of Substantive Chief Judge for less than two weeks. While responding to questions put to her by the state lawmakers; Justice LAMINKARA promised to continue with reforms in the Rivers State judiciary towards ensuring speedy dispensation of justice.
