The Federal Government has called an emergency stakeholders meeting in the health sector to deal with the outbreak of Lassa fever.
Rivers State Commissioner for Health, THEOPHILUS ODAGME has also confirmed the participation of the state in the meeting.
The Commissioner said the state government was doing everything within its powers to stop the spread of Lassa fever in the state.
ODAGME, who was speaking in an interview with correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA, said three holding centres have been set-up in the state to care for Lassa fever patents.He said the state government was also making efforts to renovate the isolation and treatment centre at Oduoha in Emohua Local Government Area, which was vandalized.The Health Commissioner also confirmed that a relative of a patient who died of the disease in the state is currently under observation at one of the centres. The Rivers State Commissioner for Health appealed to residents of the state to maintain personal and environmental hygiene.
