Police Brutality: Rivers Judicial Commission of inquiry visit victim’s property used by Police

The Chairman of the panel, Justice Chukwuneye Uriri led the team to inspect the property, which was said to have been confiscated by the Nigerian Police Force and converted to the current Choba Police station in Obio Akpor local government area.

The Choba Area Commander, ACP Stephen Okunade who received the members of the commission said he was not aware of how the building came about, as the Area Command was not in existence as at 2007.

ACP Okunade said he was posted as the  second Area Commander in 2019, where he took over from the first Area Commander ACP Patrick Daaor who served from 2017-2019, adding that the property have been in use as a Police station for long, before the Area Command was created.

Our Correspondent Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that the panel urged the Police Command to provide the Commission with information on how the said property was acquired and assigned to the Police for use.

On his part, counsel to the petitioner and a human Right Advocate, Richard Nwankwo, said the killing of late Olisa Vincent Anyadike by SARS Officers was a setup by some people and SARS Operatives, and not armed robbery incident as was claimed.

Nwankwo demanded that the corpse of Olisa Anyadike and his property currently being occupied by the police be released to family and that the police should pay rent for the thirteen years which they have stayed in the property.
