55% OF CONSUMERS STILL UNAWARE OF eSIM TECHNOLOGY — REPORT

A new industry report has revealed that more than half of mobile consumers are still unaware of eSIM technology, despite its growing adoption across global telecommunications markets.

According to the report referenced by Technext24, about 55% of consumers do not understand or recognise what eSIM is or how it works, highlighting a major awareness gap that could slow down digital transformation in the telecom sector.

The findings suggest that while telecom operators continue to expand eSIM support, user education remains a significant challenge, particularly in emerging markets where smartphone penetration and digital literacy levels are still developing.

Industry analysts say the lack of awareness could limit the speed of adoption, even as eSIM technology offers benefits such as easier network switching, reduced reliance on physical SIM cards, and improved convenience for travellers and digital users.

Experts also note that cost barriers, device compatibility issues, and limited consumer understanding are contributing to the slow uptake, especially in developing economies.

Despite the challenges, stakeholders maintain that eSIM remains a key part of the future of mobile connectivity, with expectations that adoption will gradually increase as awareness improves and more devices become compatible with the technology.
