OpenAI launches ChatGPT experience for teenagers with stronger safety controls

By Paul Chimodo

OpenAI has launched a dedicated ChatGPT experience for teenagers, introducing stronger safety protections and features designed to make the artificial intelligence tool more appropriate for users under 18.

The teen-focused version includes additional restrictions on sensitive content, measures to limit emotionally dependent interactions and parental controls. OpenAI is also introducing alerts for parents in certain situations, while providing tools designed to support teenagers with learning and school-related activities.

The company said the changes are aimed at making ChatGPT safer for younger users as the adoption of artificial intelligence continues to grow among teenagers. The initiative also gives parents greater oversight while allowing young people to use AI for education, research and other appropriate activities.
