Our correspondent reports that the suspect is a title chief in Rumuolumeni community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The man was arrested and handed over to the police by youths of the community after the little girl was discovered to be bleeding as she purportedly emerged from his apartment.
A senior police officer who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said preparations were being made to charge the matter to court.
The police officer also said the girl child who was allegedly defiled has been referred to hospital for medical attention.
