DABIRI-EREWA equally called on the African Union to intervene urgently in the renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.
The call was contained in a statement issued in Abuja, in which ABIKE DABIRI-EREWA described the attacks as an unnecessary setback.
She was reacting to information by the Nigerian Community in South Africa led by IKECHUKWU ANYENE that their members’ businesses were attacked and their belonging looted in Pretoria West on Saturday.
In the meantime; the Presidential aide advised Nigerians to be extra cautious, stressing that the South African government seems not to have control over the attacks.
She equally appealed for restraint on the part of Nigerians, but warned that further attacks from South Africans without any reprimand may have dire consequences.
DABIRI-EREWA issued the alert against the backdrop of emerging information about fresh plots of xenophobic attacks against foreigners on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
DABIRI-EREWA noted that she had two weeks ago discussed with the South African High Commissioner in Nigeria, LULU AARON-MNGUNI on the killing of Nigerians in his home country.
She said AARON-MNGUNI then promised that the South African government was investigating the matter.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President also noted that Nigeria has lost about one hundred and sixteen of its nationals in South Africa in the last two years; stressing that it was unacceptable for South Africans to continue to kill Nigerians in that country.
