The annual economic summit is a private sector driven initiative promoted on the platform of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
Declaring this year’s summit open in Abuja, President MUHAMMADU BUHARI expressed the hope that Nigeria will overcome the prevailing challenges and become a strong economy once again.
President BUHARI charged Vice President YEMI OSINBAJO and some key ministers to sit through the conference, as he expects that the final recommendations would meet the expectations of government.
In his presentation, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator UDOMA UDO-UDOMA said government was already laying the foundation to encourage local manufacturing.
The Minister said government involvement is based on the conviction that with increased local production, Nigeria would be in a better place to compete favourably in the international market.
He challenged participants in the summit to come up with recommendations on how to make goods made in Nigeria attractive to foreign buyers.
After the opening ceremony, participants at the Nigerian Economic Summit went for a tea break to prepare for a policy dialogue session that would follow.
