President EDGAR LUNGU said it was not an easy decision to declare martial law, but stressed the need to preserve peace, tranquility, safety of citizens and national security.
Speaking in a televised address on Wednesday, President LUNGU said the matter will be tabled in parliament for approval by lawmakers.
He said the intention of the perpetrators of what he described as irresponsible actions is to make the country ungoverned.
The President declared that the martial law will not affect law-abiding citizens, as they will be allowed to go about their daily activities.
