In his address, Osinbajo said in 2020, electricity subsidies reached five hundred and eighty four billion naira, but service-based tariffs have led to a doubling of collection in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry from forty billion naira in 2020 to eighty billion naira in the first quarter of 2023.
Professor Osinbajo also said that the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry will be able to pay for itself, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration created programs for off-grid electrification.
