World Food Programme launchs emergency appeal for the drought-stricken southern Africa region

The United Nations affiliate organisation is appealing for two hundred and four million dollars to purchase food and transport same to the region to help millions of hungry people.

The Executive Director of World Food Programme, ERTHARIN COUSIN said countries  like Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi were among those severely affected.

Reports say about eighteen million people across seven countries affected by the EL NINO-induced drought need emergency food assistance.
