IGP IDRIS has directed the Commissioners of Police in Imo and Kogi to ensure adequate deployment of police personnel and proper coordination of security operations for the Senatorial elections in Imo North Senatorial District and Kogi East Senatorial District.
The Police boss said the security arrangements will also cover the Houses of Assembly re-run elections in the two states.
A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DON AWUNAH indicates that the Inspector-General of Police has approved the deployment of additional personnel of the Police Mobile Force, the Counter Terrorism Units and Conventional Policemen from neighbouring states to Imo and Kogi.
DON AWUNAH, who is a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the Commissioners of Police in the two states are under strict instructions to provide adequate security for electoral staff, election materials, the electorates, election observers and other individuals and bodies that have statutory roles to play in the conduct of the elections.
The Police High Command also called on politicians, community leaders, as well as parents and guardians to prevail on their supporters, subjects, children and wards to avoid any act that is capable of causing disturbance of the peace or disruption of the electoral process.
The police warned that the full weight of the law would be applied on anyone found violating the Electoral Act or indulging in other acts capable of causing violence during the elections.
