Workers of Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Company have staged a protest over unpaid bonuses. The protesting workers earlier today blocked the flow of traffic at the Akpajo axis of the East West Road.Correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the protest caused a heavy gridlock on the road, forcing many commuters to trek long distances to their destinations. The workers complained that their employers refused to pay their bonuses after completing about ninety-eight percent of the work at the fertilizer plant. They also alleged that their employers are planning to lay them off, two months before the end of their contract. Our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the management of the company responded by mobilizing heavy security presence to prevent a breakdown of law and order. However; the management of Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Company is yet to make a comment on the claims by the protesting workers.
