New UNIPORT Vice Chancellor Unveils Eight-Point Agenda, Vows Academic Excellence

The 10th Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Princewill Chike, has pledged to position the institution as a globally respected university known for academic excellence, innovation, and impactful research.

Professor Chike made the commitment during his official handover and assumption of office ceremony, where he unveiled an eight-point agenda focused on research and innovation, digital transformation and ICT-driven governance, institutional harmony, inclusive leadership, and other strategic priorities aimed at transforming the university.

He said the institution’s vision can only be achieved through discipline, purposeful leadership, strategic planning, integrity, and hard work, expressing confidence that the university can build on its legacy and attain world-class status.

The Vice Chancellor also called for stronger collaboration among host communities, staff, students, and the university management to promote peace and accelerate the institution’s development.

Professor Chike further declared zero tolerance for sexual harassment and the practice of “sex for grades,” warning that any staff member or student found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures. He added that his administration would prioritise effective communication, student development, peaceful host community relations, and adherence to global best practices in higher education.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the University’s Governing Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwo, alongside other dignitaries. Ohuabunwo urged the new Vice Chancellor to build on the university’s achievements and lead it to greater heights.
