The Rivers state Coordinating Secretary of the Civil Service Union of Nigeria, Dan Otakpo made the demand in a communique issued at the end of the eleventh quadrennial State Delegate Conference of the union in Port Harcourt.
Otakpo urged Governor Nyesom Wike to initiate an executive bill that will make the payment of thirteenth month salary a law in the state.
The Labour leader said the initiative will improve efficiency and productivity in the state work force.
On his part, the new State Chairman of the Civil Service Union Chukwuka Osuma expressed hope that the state government will conduct promotion exercise for workers before the end of the year.
