Women in Rivers State Continue to Appeal to President Tinubu to Overturn State of Emergency, Call for Immediate Return of Suspended Governor Fubara

Rivers State, May 23, 2025 — A coalition of women under the umbrella of “Rivers Women Unite for Sim” has renewed their plea to President Bola Tinubu to revoke the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State. The women are demanding the immediate reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

During their weekly prayer meeting held today, the women emphasized their unwavering commitment to praying for divine intervention to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state. They stated that their prayer sessions, which were previously held monthly, have now become weekly gatherings in their urgent quest for peace and stability.

The women also explained that these prayer meetings serve as a platform for collective hope and resilience as they seek a swift resolution to the crisis engulfing Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the Sir Siminailayi Fubara Peace Initiative for Friends and Good Governance has called on supporters of the suspended governor to remain steadfast. The group’s Gokana coordinator, Didi Dinebari, described Governor Fubara as a paragon of good governance, highlighting his performance before his suspension by President Tinubu.

He expressed optimism that Fubara would soon resume office, calling for patience and unity among supporters.

On his part, Felix Ologara, the national spokesperson for the organization, warned that Rivers youth are prepared to stage a peaceful protest if the governor remains out of office beyond June. Ologara emphasized that the youth are resolute in their support and will continue to advocate for Fubara’s return.

As the political tension persists, the people of Rivers State remain hopeful for a swift resolution, with community groups and women’s associations calling for divine and political intervention to restore stability and good governance in the state.
