The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate as part of its ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs operating across the state.
The suspects were apprehended after a failed attempt to abduct a female victim along the Rumuosi–Rumuekini axis of Port Harcourt at about 9 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the gang, made up of two men and two women, allegedly attempted to divert the victim from her destination but their vehicle veered into a ditch near the Rumuekini Flyover. The incident attracted residents and passersby, who apprehended two of the suspects before handing them over to the police, while the other two escaped.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, said the arrests were made by operatives acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju. The suspects were identified as Uche Samuel, 45, from Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, and Nkechi Amadi, 42, from Nekede in Imo State. Police said the suspects confessed to their involvement during interrogation, while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Rivers State of one-chance operators and other violent criminals, warning that there would be no hiding place for criminal elements. He assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and proactive operations to ensure the safety of lives and property, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending offenders.
