LAI MOHAMMED said government has been able to recover one hundred and fifty-one million dollars and eight billion naira looted funds, through the help of whistle-blowers.
MOHAMMED said the recovered looted funds do not include the nine point two million dollar cash belonging to former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, ANDREW YAKUBU.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant, SEGUN ADENIYI, the Information and Culture Minister was quoted as saying the monies were recovered from three sources who gave actionable information to the office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation.
The recoveries were made bank accounts bearing fake names, which the Minister said confirms government’s earlier revelations that there was a primitive and mindless looting of the national treasury under the last Administration.
He equally confirmed that the recovered cash allegedly owned by former NNPC boss was also a dividend of the whistle-blower policy.
LAI MOHAMMED appealed to Nigerians with useful information on looted funds to continue to provide the authorities with such information.
The Minister assured that confidentiality would be maintained with regards to the source of information on looted funds.
He also reminded Nigerians of the financial reward of the Whistle-Blower policy, which ranges between two point five and five percent of all voluntary return of stolen or concealed public funds or assets for the provider of such information.
