US State Department spokesman MARK TONER described as ludicrous the claim by Turkish President RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN.

TONER said there was no basis for such an accusation, after the Turkish leader said he had evidence the US had also supported two Kurdish militia groups.

President ERDOGAN made the allegation at a press conference in Ankara while reacting to accusation that Turkey was supporting IS.

Meanwhile; at least thirty-seven Turkish troops have been killed in the course of the operation launched in August to push IS militants and Kurdish fighters out of the area around Turkish border town of al-Bab.

The US has been working with the Kurdish groups in Syria but Turkey said they are linked to the Kurdistan Workers Party, which has been waging a decades-long insurgency inside Turkey.
