The south Asian island nation had declared itself bankrupt in July amid an unprecedented economic crisis.
UN agencies working in Sri Lanka in a joint statement noted that they had raised seventy nine million dollars to feed those in need, but the increasing number of poor people meant an additional seventy million dollars was needed.
The UN agencies had also estimated in June that one point seven million out of the twenty two million population in Sri Lanka require help.
The UN said its revised plan is aimed at feeding two point one million people, including pregnant mothers and school children and providing livelihood support to one point five million farmers and fishermen.
