Two police officers attached to the Aluu Police Division have been killed by suspected armed criminals during an attack along the Aluu axis of the Obiri Ikwerre-Airport Road in Rivers State.
The officers were reportedly conducting a stop-and-search operation on Monday night when the attackers, who were travelling in a mini bus, opened fire on them.
A senior officer attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command said one officer is still missing following the attack, while the assailants reportedly carted away police rifles.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said an official statement would be issued after the Commissioner of Police returns from an assessment visit to the scene of the attack.
Police authorities say efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the killings.
