Two motorcycle operators have been arraigned before the Choba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly operating in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. CLETUS UDOH and HAPPINESS AJIRU were arraigned for alleged violation of the restriction of motorcycles in Obio-Akpor, as well as riding motorcycles without registration number and crash-helmets. After the charges were read by the Chief Clerk, UDOH pleaded guilty to the two-count charge, explaining that he had paid sixteen thousand naira to policemen at the Choba Divisional Police Station who arrested him. UDOH said he was surprised that the same officer who collect the money in a bid to release his motorcycle, turned around to have him arrested a second time. On his part, HAPPINESS AJIRU pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
After listening to the testimonies, Chief Magistrate IBIERE JOHN granted the accused persons bail in the sum of one hundred thousand naira each and a surety. The Chief Magistrate also ordered the defendants to deposit two passport photographs, before adjourning the matter to 21st of September for hearing.
