Tribunal Dismisses LP Petition, Affirms Mbah As Enugu Governor

Recall that the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, upheld the election of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party in the March 18, 2023 poll.

The Labour Party governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeogu had approached the tribunal to challenge the declaration on the grounds that MBAH was not qualified to stand for the election,over alleged forgery of his National Youth Service Corps certificate and cases of over-voting in Udenu, Nkanu East and Enugu East local government areas.

But the tribunal, chaired by Justice Kudirat Akano, dismissed all grounds of the petition.

Speaking after the verdict, Governor Mbah who commended the ruling also extended hands of fellowship to the opposition candidates and their political parties, saying the task to uphold the state remains a collective one.

Meanwhile; the Labour party has rejected the decision of the governorship election petition tribunal upholding the victory of Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah.

In a statement, the party also vowed to immediately proceed to the Supreme Court to seek redress.

According to a statement, the national chairman of the party, Julius Abure, described the ruling as a miscarriage of justice, which he said will not stand.
