Traders in Port Harcourt have expressed concern that the rising political tension in Rivers State could pose serious threats to their businesses and economic stability.
According to the traders, the political crisis that started in 2023, and was followed by the declaration of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu, had a devastating impact on commercial activities across the state. They said markets, shops, and other business hubs suffered significant losses during the period.
They told our reporter that many businesses are still struggling to recover from the effects of the earlier crisis, warning that renewed political instability could worsen the situation.
The traders appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to embrace dialogue and peaceful engagement in the interest of economic growth and public stability.
