This report says, unknown gunmen have killed twenty people in some communities in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State. The gunmen reportedly arrived Zakupwang village in Fan district and attacked the villagers.
Some of the Survivors of the attack alleged that the gunmen were armed Fulani militias. However, following the security challenges in the area, the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, had set up a fouteen-man committee, seven each from the Berom and Fulani communities, to reconcile the Berom farmers and Fulani herdsmen as part of his peace initiative. The joint military task force operating in the area is yet to confirm the attack. Meanwhile, a lawmaker representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, ISTIFANUS GYANG, confirmed the killing in a statement made available to newsmen. GYANG is worried that the attack came when concerted peace efforts and dialogue meetings are ongoing between Berom and Fulani stakeholders.
