The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports of an attempted jail break at the Port Harcourt Prison.

The Police Public Relations Officer, AHMAD MUHAMMAD, also said media reports of shooting within the vicinity of the prison are false.
With reference to a particular television station; the PPRO said the report was far below journalistic standards because it did not include a confirmation of the concerned authority.He said members of the public are enjoined to discountenance and ignore the story in its entirety, just as the State Police Command called for the continued co-operation of the media to verify the truthfulness of news items before making them public.
AHMAD MUHAMMAD said such verification and confirmation would help to avoid creating needless panic.
