The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the dissolution of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government council, sacking the elected Chairman, AUSTIN AHIAMADU.The State Legislature reconvened today for an emergency session to adopt the resolution, less than twenty-four hours after it had adjourned plenary until 7th of January.The new Speaker of the House, who presided over the sitting, said the action against the elected ONELGA council is based on the request of Governor NYESOM WIKE.The Speaker said the move against the ONELGA council led by AUSTIN AHIAMADU is on grounds of incompetence.
The House of Assembly also screened and confirmed the appointment of ISAAC UMEJURU as Chairman of a new Caretaker Committee for ONELGA council.
Correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA reports that six members of the ONELGA Caretaker Committee were also screened and confirmed by the House.
Recently, communities within ONELGA have been in the news with reports of violent cult clashes, leading to the loss of several lives.
