The Rivers Governorship Elections Tribunal sitting in Abuja has ruled that it would abide by the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which directed that ruling should first be given on all pending motions. Counsels to the respondents, including Governor NYESOM WIKE, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission had approached the appeal court in protest over the decisions of the tribunal to delay ruling on three motions that had been argued in the petition brought by the All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate, DAKUKU PETERSIDE. After going through the rulings of the Appellate Court; the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice SULEIMAN AMBRUSO promised to comply with the directive of the higher court.
However; Justice AMBRUSO went on to ask the petitioners to call in more witnesses in continuation of the hearing, but that was resisted by the respondents. Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the tribunal stood its ground; citing the essence of time to complete the election proceedings. Meanwhile; the Tribunal did not set any date for compliance with the appeal court order.
