The President of the Nigerian Senate, Doctor BUKOLA SARAKI returns to the Code of Conduct Tribunal today, as his trial for corruption and false declaration of assets resumes.
Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that Senator SARAKI arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal accompanied by about thirty-five other senators.
The escort senators include the Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU, as well as Senators ANDY UBA and UCHE EKWUNIFE – all members of the opposition PDP.
APC senators in the entourage of the Senate President include ADAMU ALIERO, SHEHU SANI, DINO MELAYE, TAYO ALASOADURA and KABIRU GAYA.
The last time Senator SARAKI appeared before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on 21st of October, he was accompanied by over eighty senators.
At the last sitting, the CCT had adjourned the case to allow the Court of Appeal rule on SARAKI’s application challenging its composition and jurisdiction to hear the charges against him.
The Appeal Court has since ruled in favour of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, setting the stage for the proper trial to continue.
But the Senate President has also approached the Supreme Court to halt the trial.
