The Police Service Commission and the Police High Command have concluded arrangements for the deployment of a high level monitoring team to airports, highways and other public places. Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Sir Mike Okiro confirmed the development in a statement obtained by our news desk. The statement noted that the move is in line with a presidential directive for immediate withdrawal of policemen from individuals who are not entitled to personal police protection.

The former Inspector General of Police said the monitoring team would have the powers to stop VIP convoys on the highways and airports for confirmation of their status. According to the statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations unit of the PSC, IKECHUKWU ANI, OKIRO warned that any erring VIP or policeman caught in such unauthorized beat would be prosecuted. The PSC Chairman said the Commission and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force will enforce the presidential directive to the letter, stressing that henceforth only authorized government officials and VIPs’ would be entitled to Police security.

He said the Nigeria Police would now be structured to do its primary duties of providing internal security and protection of lives and property.
