The opposition National League for Democracy in Myanmar has secured a landslide victory in the general elections of last Sunday. Officials said more eighty percent of the votes have been declared, with the NLD led by AUNG SAN SUU KYI securing more than the two-thirds majority to choose the president. SUU KYI is not permitted by the country’s constitution to become President. The landmark election was the first to be openly contested in Myanmar in twenty-five years.
