The Nigerian Senate has mandated its Committee on National Security and Intelligence to investigate alleged invasion of Ekiti State House of Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Security Service. The resolution was based on a motion moved by Senator ABIODUN OLUJIMI from Ekiti South Senatorial District; and the committee is expected to determine the immediate and remote causes of the DSS intervention.Senator OLUJIMI claimed DSS agents fired sporadic gunshots during the operation on 4th of March, and caused panic among members and staff of the State House of Assembly.Senator OLUJIMI further claimed that the whereabouts of three of the state lawmakers have remained unknown ever since the incident last Friday. Our Abuja correspondent, JAMES IGAH reports that the debate on the motion caused a division among PDP and APC Senators, who managed to kill an aspect of the motion which intended to condemn the action of the DSS.In his contribution, Senator ENYINNAYA ABARIBE of the PDP from ABia State said the DSS broke the law and should be held liable. But the Senate Leader, ALI NDUME who is of the APC, reminded his PDP colleagues that the invasion of the legislature by security agents was the hallmark of the previous PDP administration in the country. In his ruling on the motion, Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI urged the Committee on National Security and Intelligence to report back in two weeks.
