The Nigerian Senate has asked the Federal Road Safety Commission and Vehicle Inspection Officers of the various state governments to check the quality of vehicle tyres that are in use in the country.

The Nigerian Senate has asked the Federal Road Safety Commission and Vehicle Inspection Officers of the various state governments to check the quality of vehicle tyres that are in use in the country.The directive is based on observation that the use of substandard tyres could be contributing to frequent road accidents across Nigeria.Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH report that the attention of the Senate was drawn to the disturbing observation in a motioned moved by Senator SHEHU SANI.In its resolution, the Senate also urged the Standard Organissation of Nigeria to partner with Nigeria Customs Service to intensify its checks on tyres imported into the country through land, sea and air ports.The Senate noted that about five thousand people died in road accidents involving blown out low-quality tyres since 2010 till date.
