The Nigerian Navy has announced the arrest of a Marine Tanker code-named MT MARINA with one hundred metric tons of illegally refined diesel. The vessel was arrested on 28th April on the Sombreiro in the Niger Delta by operatives onboard the naval warship NNS ANDONI.
The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore CHRISTIAN ODOGWU EZEKOBE said it was discovered that the vessel was processing approval for two hundred metric tons of diesel as a cover up of her illegal activities. The Navy spokesman also confirmed the arrest of thirteen persons suspected to be involved in oil bunkering, crude oil theft and piracy by naval operatives onboard NNS DELTA.Commodore EZEKOBE said twelve of the suspects were picked up at Forcados River, while one suspect was arrested after sea pirates engaged the naval patrol team in a shootout at Ndolo community in Ekeremo Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.He said the arrested vessel and its crew, as well as other suspects have been handed over to the relevant prosecuting agencies after investigations.
