The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to trace all funds stolen from government treasury and return them for public use.
The Chairman of the Rivers State council of the NLC, BEATRICE ITUBO made the appeal on behalf of the National President of the NLC, AYUBA WABA.
ITUBO was speaking in Port Harcourt during the Rivers State version of the nationwide mass anti-corruption rallies organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress yesterday.
The NLC Chairman said the rallies underscored the deep concern of the labour movement about the present unsustainable cost of governance in the country.
BEATRICE ITUBO called on President MUHAMMADU BUHARI to establish a special anti-corruption court to handle related cases to ensure speedy dispensation of justice on such matters.
She equally called on the National Assembly to make laws that would help to defeat corruption.
The labour demonstrators were received at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt; the Chief of Staff, EMEKA WOKE.
EMEKA WOKE thanked the workers for their peaceful disposition and promised to deliver their letter to the Governor.
He assured that Governor WIKE will support every action that encourages the fight against corruption or geared towards the delivery of good governance.
Correspondent JUDITH OKAFOR reports that hundreds of labour leaders drawn from the NLC and TUC, as well as members of affiliate groups , took part in the Port Harcourt version of the mass anti-corruption rally.
The procession took off from the Labour House in D-Line area of Port Harcourt and terminated at the Rivers State Government House.
