The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, OLISA METUH, has been arraigned on a separate two-count charge, a day after he was granted bail on a first set of seven-count charge.This time, METUH is accused of criminal destruction of evidence and property of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, after he allegedly tore a statement he had made to the EFCC.But when the charges were read to him in court, METUH pleaded not guilty, insisting that he had done nothing wrong.His lawyer, ONYECHI IKPEAZU expressed reservation about the new set of charges and also questioned the manner in which his client was being treated in detention.He was reacting to the choice of the prison officers to bring METUH to court in handcuffs, and promised to sort out the matter with higher authorities.After taking METUH’s plea on the fresh two-count charge, Justice ISHAQ BELLO of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory who is presiding over the case adjourned to the 25th of January to hear his bail application.OLISA METUH risks a maximum of two years imprisonment if convicted on the two count charge against him.The PDP spokesman was on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of four hundred million naira and two sureties for two hundred million naira each over the first set of seven-count charge of money laundering and fraud.The PDP’s image-maker is facing prosecution in connection with the so-called “Armsgate” scandal in which former National Security Adviser; retired Colonel SAMBO DASUKI is alleged to have shared money meant for the purchase of military equipment to some politicians.
