The Inspector General of Police, SOLOMON ARASE, has given the assurance of the Nigeria Police Force to implement provisions of the Act on violence against Persons.
I.G.P. ARASE gave the assurance in his office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, this morning, during a visit by representative of some government ministries and agencies. The visitors include the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, the Chief Magistrate of the Federal Capital Territory Judiciary, and the Deputy Country Representative of the United Nations Women.
ARASE confirmed to his guests that a technical team is already in place to look into all cultural inhibitions against proper prosecution of offenders in this regard.
He said the Nigeria Police Force has commenced the training of officers for Gender-based violence desks on diverse courses.
A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, KOLAWOLE OLABISI, said the visitors unanimously agreed for a definite collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force on a common front to fight the offence of gender-based violence and violence against persons.
