The immediate-past Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, DAVID PARRADANG, is facing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes ommission over alleged acts of corruption. You will recall that DAVID PARRADANG was kicked out of office in August in what was believed to be an order by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI. A report in an online medium said PARRADANG was a guest at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was interrogated by a crack team of detectives beginning from 10AM.
An unofficial source is reported to have revealed that the former Immigration boss is being investigated in connection with the 2014 recruitment scandal that lead to the death of sixteen jobseekers in stampedes across various centres. You will recall that applicants for the immigration vacancies were made to pay one thousand naira each as registration fee, which is thought to have fetched the agency over six hundred million naira. It is alleged that the Nigeria Immigration Service was only able to declare forty-five million naira to the authorities.
ABBA MORO was the Minister of Interior when the scandal broke out, and he is alleged to have played a role in the engagement of a consultancy firm known as Drexel Nigeria Limited for failed exercise. It is also reported that ABBA MORO and the consultancy firm are also being investigated. It is however not clear if the alleged fraud is the reason for the removal of DAVID PARRADANG as Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, since no explanation was given in the letter announcing his sack. It was initially reported that the arrest of a wanted Lebanese terrorist suspect, AHMAD AL-ASSIR with a Nigerian visa was the reason for his removal.
