The Ijaw Youth Congress has threatened to adopt a violent approach in driving its agitation for a better deal for the region.

The IYC said it was now embarking on a mission is support of so-called Niger Delta Avengers, which recently blew up some oil installations in the region.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the IYC is not happy that the Federal government is not doing anything on the report of National Conference convoked by former president, GOODLUCK JONATHAN.The IYC claims that the report of the Conference recorgnises the need for greater benefits for oil producing communities in the Niger Delta.Addressing newsmen during an event in Port Harcourt to mark Isaac Boro Day, the Secretary of IYC, BRISTOL ALAGBARIYA urged the Federal Government begin consultations with stakeholders, otherwise the Niger Delta will not know peace.
The Ijaw Youth Congress scribe also expressed displeasure with the Federal Government over the removal of fuel subsidy.
ALAGBARIYA wandered why those who rejected fuel subsidy during the last administration are now the ones advocating for it.
The IYC’s threat is coming after the Nigerian Defence Headquarters confirmed the arrest of some persons who are allegedly linked to the newly formed Niger Delta Avengers.The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General RABE ABUBAKAR, who made this known to newsmen, did not give details, but other sources said the suspects were arrested during a military raid in Oporoza, in Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State.
The suspects were purportedly taken to 19th Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Warri North Local Government Area.
