The Federal Government is targeting the year 2030 to phase out gas flaring in the country.The new target is a departure from the earlier national goal of the year 2020 to end gas flaring in the country.The government has already put machinery in place for the signing of the United Nations Agreement on Zero Routing Gas Flaring.Vice President of Nigeria, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO said to achieve the objective would need the support of the National Assembly.Professor OSINBAJO was speaking at the opening of the 6th African Petroleum Congress and Exhibition, hosted by Nigeria.OSINBAJO said ending gas flaring was an imperative for African oil producers, considering the amount of waste involved.He also challenged African countries to take advantage of the potentials in gas-to-power, stressing that the incremental use of gas in Africa’s energy mix has become an imperative.
