The Federal Government hopes to drive the ten thousand megawatts of electricity target by 2019 through manpower development.The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, BABATUNDE FASHOLA, gave this indication at the graduation of trainees of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria.FASHOLA said without skilled manpower to address the critical needs of the power sector, the target may not be realized.
He also stressed the need for the training of qualified personnel on designing, building, operation and maintenance of power plants.
The Minister who was represented at the ceremony by the Permanent Secretary in charge of Power, LOUIS EDOZIEN, called on the graduating trainees to brace up to the challenge ahead.He said there was the need for the graduate trainees to develop a positive attitude that would enable them to be creative in solving the myriad of problems that are responsible for lack of access to power by large majority of Nigerians.
