The Federal Government has ordered a mass sack of Resident Doctors of Federal health institutions.

The Minister of Health, Professor ISAAC ADEWOLE, also directed Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of all tertiary health institutions to fill up vacancies created by striking Resident Doctors.

Spokesperson for the Ministry, BOADE AKINOLA said the directive is contained in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, AMINA SHAMAKI.

The government claims that the striking Resident Doctors abandoned their training programme thereby voluntarily withdrawing from the residency programme.

The Health Ministry accused the Resident Doctors of refused to report to work in spite of ongoing negotiations on their demands.

You will recall that Resident Doctors in government hospitals nationwide embarked on a nationwide strike on Monday.

The strike has crippled activities at all Federal Medical Facilities, including the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
