The Department of Petroleum Resources has warned that it will no longer tolerate illegal activities by petrol depot owners and marketers.
DPR’s Port Harcourt Zonal Operations Controller, CHIOMA NJOKU issued the warning during a joint meeting between with oil marketers, depot owners and filling station operators in Port Harcourt.NJOKU said the DPR has observed that the depot owners and marketers have been engaged in unlawful practices such as adjustment of dispensing pumps, diversion of products as well as aiding and abetting black market operators.The DPR Zonal Controller warned that anyone caught in such act would be arrested and prosecuted. The Port Harcourt Zonal Operations Controller also frowned at the dispensing of uncertified petroleum products by depot owners and the introduction of Premium Motor Spirit Coupons, which she said have caused major setback in the industry.Some petroleum marketers who were present at the meeting, complained of harassment and extortion of retail outlets by security agencies and officials of the DPR.Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that representatives of Rivers State government, the Rivers State Police Command, and the Department of State Security Service also attended the meeting with the DPR officials.
