The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has also nullified the conduct of the senatorial election for Rivers East Senatorial District on the 28th of March.
The Appellate Court Panel upturned the judgment of the Election Tribunal that upheld the election of GEORGE SEKIBO of the Peoples Democratic Party, and ordered a fresh election within ninety days.The ruling was delivered based on a petition filed by Chief ANDREW UCHENDU of the All Progressives Congress, who has in turn welcomed the judgment as victory for the rule of law.Chief UCHENDU said the re-run election ordered by the court offers an opportunity seek for a fresh mandate to correct the damage done on the state over the past six months.Similarly; the Appeal Court also nullified the election of KINGSLEY CHINDA for Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, while ruling on an appeal filed by Chief TONY OKOCHA of the APC.Also nullified is the election of BLESSING NSIEGBE of the PDP for PHALGA Constituency Two, based on an appeal filed by COLLINS OWHONDA of the APC.The appellate court ordered re-run elections for Obio-Akpor Federal Consitituency and PHALGA Constituency Two within ninety days.Reacting to the judgment, the appellant, COLLINS OWHONDA of the APC for PHALGA Constituency Two, hailed the ruling as victory for democracy.COLLINS OWHONDA said he was ready for a re-run and expressed confidence that the election would be different this time.
Meanwhile; ruling in the appeal filed by MAGNUS ABE of the APC, challenging the election of Senator OLAKA NWOGU for Rivers South-East will be delivered today.
